Life at CUMC

PhD students at Columbia University Medical Center are encouraged to take part in the numerous extra-curricular social and volunteering opportunites available both at Columbia and in the larger New York City community. Your Columbia University ID grants you free admission to many of NYC's finest museums including The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art. The Graduate Student Organization hosts a weekly gathering with free food and drinks and also organizes numerous social activities in the city. Popular events include attending sporting events, Broadway shows, hiking, ice skating, food festivals and other fun activities throughout the city. Many students choose to become involved in volunteering and outreach at soup kitchens, community gardens, food banks, animal shelters and local schools. There are also numerous extracurricular groups at CUMC where students from all programs get together to perform music, dance, act and enjoy engaging in other shared interests.
